Things I Made and Saw: A Few Snippets

I totally didn't get arond to doing this post on Sunday since I'm still finishing up craziness for school. Thought I'd take a little break today and share a few fun things.

I made some fun fabric labels on Spoonflower last week - I hope that they print up nicely!

This fabric was on my hall table for a long time -thinking to maybe make something fancy out of it soon!

We went to a bake sale last weekend and got this box of goodies. Pretty tasty looking, right?

Zen had to sanitize his hands and wear gloves...the old ladies apparently followed him around and glared at him. I told him they were probably a bit scared of him, since he's like 6"3 and was the only man here. Apparently that kind of thing had not occurred to him? I can see how I might be wary if I was an old lady working a bake sale with money around in a downtown that's sometimes pretty sketchy.

Fun and Free Finds: Tray Table

I dont' think I shared this with you, but I had an awesome night of "finding" free things a few weeks back! The hair salon downstairs was moving across the street, so I snagged a bunch of those plastic organizers with tiny drawers that are so great for craft stuff, and are always so expensive (which may figure into some crafty organizing in my future) as well as a new curtain rod, a lamp that may or may not work, and a few other little things. Later that night, I also snagged this fun tray table!

DSCF4136

We've been using it constantly, since we hadn't been able to find a table small enough to fit next to the couch, and this is ideal, since it's collapsible if we need it to be.

I can't say I'm wild about the green leaf pattern, so I may give this a makeover at some point, but still, pretty neat right?

I also explored a new to me thrift store last week, so there will be some fun finds to share from that haul soon as well:)

Halloween Costumes from Way Back : Liz Lemon Avoiding Jury Duty

It's been a few years since I actually dressed up for Halloween, and I was thinking back to costumes that I've done in the past. Most hilarious one (where I actually made pretty much all of it?)--has got to be the time I went out to see the shadowcast screening of Rocky Horror Picture show at the Bloor Cinema in Toronto with some lovely friends!

My costume: Liz Lemon avoiding jury duty (aka Princess Leia) (please watch this and this and watch more 30 Rock immediately if you don't get the reference)

My friend Spock (aka Brent)  and I
This was a sort of last minute, DIY costume that actually turned out really well!

Things I bought:

Princess Leia wig -I even happened to find the official Star Wars version (if I'd had enough time, I would have knit one like this one! )
Water pistol

Things I made:

1) Princess Leia dress
Custom design, made from some white fabric I had lying around I think the fabric was actually my curtains at one point!

2) Belt for the dress
I made the belt from a strip of fabric, with tin foil wrapped squares of cardboard glued on to it.

3) Nametag that said "Hello my name is Liz Lemon"
I cut out a rectangle of foam core, glued a pin back on the back and just wrote the text on with a permanent marker.

4) Sign that said "I don't think it's fair for me to be on a jury because I can read  thoughts"
I also used a large rectangle of foam core and a marker to make the sign

Here's the beginning of Rocky Horror! So Exciting! I'm sad to hear they won't be playing it at the Bloor Cinema this year, since they're renovating.

Spock looks a bit confused as to what's happening here --or it's been 7 years and he's distracted by something over to the left, who can tell?

We were also accompanied by the fabulous Lady Gaga!

Curbside Finds - Rug Samples

I just wanted to share with you guys these awesome rug samples that I found while out on a walk the other day. They'd just been put out, and were in front of a fairly high end decorating store, so I decided to snap them up!

DSCF3790

I love all the different colours, and I'm trying to figure out the awesomest thing that I can make out of them--all in all there's about 15 or 20 samples.

DSCF3787

My first thoughts are something along the lines of making a bigger rug that's the shape of a flower, with two of the samples being the inside of the flower, and the rest forming the petals, but I'm not sure yet and have to play around a bit with them. Other thoughts include bags, using them as tiny rugs, or sewing two together to make doggie mats or something like that.

Anyone have any ideas that spring to mind? I'd love to hear them!

Ps. I know I'm a bit behind, but I'll announce some giveaway winners tomorrow, so keep an eye out!

My Collections - Pinback Buttons and Other Fancy Pins

I have a problem. I can't pass up buying those bags of buttons from Value Village or other thrift stores. And, I love buttons and brooches and pins of all kinds. So, I have a lot of them, and thought I'd share some of them with you today!

Cute ones:

Things I made and Saw - Stitch markers, Thrifting fun and Bears, oh my!

I was feeling in a funky mood earlier, so boy and I decided to hit the grocery store, as well as Value village for some thrifting fun! Here are some of the treasures that made their way home with me!

I've been seeing others using alphabet blocks in fun ways in photos, and I found this whole bag of them -- so of course had to spell out my blog's name :) Possible new blogger header?

This little guy stowed away in the bag with the blocks --sort of looks like a disgruntled Elmer the Safety Elephant, no?

Other treasures --loving the animal coin banks!

In other funness, as a break from listening to lectures and studying, I watched some TV last night and started working on some new stitch markers (for knitting, if you're not familiar)

Here's one of my bins of jewelry making odds and ends (and handy tools!)

Stitch markers in progress (still gotta bend the metal parts --only got as far as attaching the charms)

Also, I saw a tiger peeking at me. Naughty tiger.

Off to head out to walk my neglected pooch and get some last bits of sunshine/weekend!
