Things I Made and Saw: Buttons, Gloves and Things I Left at the Thrift Store

It's been a busy few weeks as usual, and I thought I'd share a few photos from the last little while.

I finally finished some knitting projects for a friend --I think the fingerless gloves and scarf turned out pretty well. I love the pattern I found on Ravelry, Half Pint Fingerless gloves. Now that the cooler weather is here, I could definitely see wearing these while drinking a delicious pint, and I may have to make another pair for myself.

In other yarn and fibre news, I've recently joined the Knitter's Guild in my new city, and they throw a yearly yarn show which was a lot of fun. I wo(manned) the door for a few hours, chatted to some awesome knitters and came home with a few goodies, one of which I can't share since it's a gift for my mom. But look: fancy handpainted yarn --Briggs & Little SoftSpun, which is handpainted and soft. This colourway is coloured Bubble Gum. I also love the fabulous colours of these yarn bats I got for needle felting!

We also took an outing to pick up a package this weekend, and made a stop into the thrift store. Here are a few of the amusing animal-themed goodies that I spotted on the shelves.

We also stopped into Word on the Street, where we ate yummy cookies, tried to best others at Scrabble and make some fun buttons! Here's a picture of mine below. I also drew an owl for Zen's button that said "Reading is a Hoot". He thought that was quite amusing and I sense a possible cross stitch in my future!

And because I've been a lax blogger lately, and because all blog posts deserve some cute dogs, here's a picture of Jesse wearing an adorable t-shirt.

Jesse was also feeling sick for awhile, so took to sleeping on a pile of laundry in the closet to make himself feel better (it was also really cute!)

We also finally went for a long walk with my friend Greg and his dogs Dakota and Casey awhile back, who I think were contemplating eating the park swan in this picture. Silly dogs!

Things I Made and Saw: Visits and Food

Yesterday our awesome friend Kim came up to visit us from Toronto! It was a fabulous day of cooking, talking, eating, cuddling puppies and watching awesome things like 30 Rock (which we all quote liberally from at the best of times) The food was fabulous and occupied a bunch of the day preparing and eating it-- my favourite things!

For brunch we had: Waffles with hollandaise sauce, maple bacon and poached eggs with steamed fiddleheads on the side. Oh, and most importantly, mimosas!

It was lovely to sit around and eat tasty things, watch the live episode of 30 Rock and just relax and chat. Kim used to be my neighbour back when I lived in Toronto, and I've definitely missed our weekly Saturday morning dog walks and coffee dates at the off leash park in Toronto.  (You can actually see a picture of Jesse and Marlowe, Kim's dog in the background of this picture of Kim --those pups are the best of buddies)

I also appreciate her support for my blog and crafts --she enjoyed my robot art from the other day so much that she got me to whip her up one of her own to take home with her. Her idea to frame them in a shadowbox frame is just right I think!

Zen looks a little bit like he might stab me with a fork in this picture - probably only if I tried to take his bacon.

Dinner was so good that I didn't even get pictures of most of it, but was fried chicken, potato salad, romaine salad with cut up strawberries and balsamic dressing, and finished up with this banana, chocolate chip and peanut butter cake I came up with awhile back. I'm still perfecting the recipe, but it turned out pretty darn tasty!

Oh, and because I keep forgetting to post this photo --I love this time of year when the tulips are in bloom!

Happy weekend everyone --I'm off to enjoy the last of the sunshine!

Things I Made and Saw: Decorating, Skirts & Quilting

I've been having a pretty low key weekend here, and have mostly been trying to organize a few things around the house including putting up some pictures and finishing up some sewing. We also had a few friends over, and had some tasty food like burgers and home made chocolate pudding.

I finally am making some progress with hanging up some of embroideries and other art around the house:

I also finally hung up my set of embroidered hoops in my bedroom, along with my collection of dream catchers. I recently finished the green one, and the others were given to me as gifts.

I've been wanting to get back into making some clothes for myself again, so decided to practice making a skirt or two in a smaller scale with some larger scraps of fabric from my stash. I think this one turned out pretty cute:

I'm also making good progress on quilting the baby quilt I'm working on:

Things I made and saw: Puppies and Sewing and Doilies

Busy week all around--was babysitting last night for a friend's kid and hemmed some jeans for another friend, so ended up not quite having enough time to do this post last night. But cuteness demands to be shown, so here we go:

Jesse had an adorable nap yesterday, and I managed to snap this photo of him with his eyes rolling back a bit and looking oh so sleepy:

DSCF4496

I've also been working on a few things crafty wise--a friend gave me some doilies and I thought I'd try stretching one in an embroidery hoop to see what it looked like. Result-cute, though I think it needs something else (as well as to be finished)

DSCF4490

I originally knit this as a cowl, with some twists in it, but it was just too wide and had too many twists, so I sewed a few seams on the sewing machine, held my breath and cut it. I zigzag stitched the edges, and voila, it's now a scarf. I just have to weave in the ends and block it, and it'll be ready to wear. I love these bright cotton yarns so much!

DSCF4494

I also got this printed fabric panel awhile ago, and am getting ready to quilt the top of it--deciding whether to machine quilt it or quilt it by hand. I'm leaning towards by hand, just because I can't get enough of the adorable monkey. The boy loves monkeys and is a little bit wanting of a grown up duvet with a monkey on it too :P

I also made up a few simple flannel baby blankets too, since I'm trying to use up a bunch of my stash fabric, as well as finish a lot of projects I started ages ago.

So far, I'm making pretty good progress, but lots more to do, especially since my mom just sent me an awesome care package of fabric and crafty things that I'm looking forward to playing with. I may share some of the goodies she sent on here soon.

Things I made and Saw: Hodge Podge

Just a quick pop in to share some of the things I've been up to this week. Working on some more phone cases--these should be finished and listed this week in the shop, hopefully along with some other things I've been working on

The demolition continues next door--it's sort of neat to see a cross section of the building

Delivered a necklace to it's new home

We got lots of snow here the other day--snow on trees looks so neat to me. We finally got a video of Jesse romping about in the snow as well, making doggy snow angels:P

DSCF4464

We got a Munchkin Cthulhu expansion recently - I can't decide whether this one or the original is more fun

Finishing up a hat for a bloggy friend, Julie from Tri-ing to be Althletic...almost done!

Things I made and Saw: Knitting and Birds and Scrabble

This week I made some pretty things-  Iphone cover for Jessica (see how I totally put a bird on it?) , mittens for Beth and I started knitting a cowl:

I let Jessica do my makeup, and we also played some Scrabble ( I won, by a small margin!)

Things I made and Saw: Craftiness, Self Portraits and Organizing

I made a few shop updates in my Etsy Shop this week, and thought I'd share some of the new lovelies! I'm really happy with them, and I hope you love them as much as I do!

First up, in honour of Valentines Day, some adorable (if I do say so myself)  heart pins!

DSCF4334

DSCF4336

You can find these lovelies here in my Etsy shop.

I've also been working on some new necklaces that will make it into the shop soon--the rest are similar to this one, but with different charms.

DSCF4345

Oh and hey--an actual photo of myself! I was having an awesome hair day the other day and actually remembered to take a picture. Apparently I'm always wearing mostly the same outfit/scarf whenever I feel like taking a picture of myself :P

DSCF4330

Other than that, I've been trying to organize my entire apartment, which has mostly resulted in stacks of things to get rid of, and half done organizing projects everywhere which have been occupying my time and driving me a bit bonkers.  Add that to school stuff, job searching and general hermit-ing of late due to the chillyness outside, and I haven't been taking a lot of photos. Anyway, this week I should hopefully be completing a few of these organizing projects, have a giveaway from a local Etsy friend coming up and lots more fun things to share! But for now, I'm going to drink a few more gallons of tea and cuddle on the couch under blankets!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend friends!
