Aviva Community Fund Contest

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Aviva Community Fund for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I hadn't heard about the Aviva Community Fund Contest  until recently, but I was blown away by the descriptions of previous entries and winners, and all the good that this contest has ended up doing to improve the quality of local communities in Canada. The Aviva community fund is offering a total of $1,000,000 to create, lead and empower community initiatives and projects across Canada.
Some of the projects by past winners totally took my breath away, and I figured I'd share a few of my favourite projects with you to get you inspired and ready to submit your ideas to this amazing contest!

NWT SPCA Northern Community Animal Shelter

One of the 2010 winners whose description just broke my heart, was for the SPCA to build a much needed animal shelter in Yellowknife, NWT. Their idea to build an eco-friendly facility to allow for the care of animals who had been suffering neglect, abuse and abandonment in freezing temperatures (or worse), as well as promoting education in the community is an amazing thing! The shelter broke ground on September 7, and I know I for one can sleep better knowing that lots of puppies and kitties will soon be tucked into safe warm beds awaiting their new forever homes.
Other past winning ideas include a therapeutic garden for people with Alzheimer's Disease in Quebec, a dream playground for kids in a rural New Brunswick Community, and a kitchen to feed hungry youth in Saskatchewan.  You can check out other previous winners here.

Who Can Enter?
Anyone with an idea that can be implemented within a Canadian community to make it a better place, or addresses a specific need in a community. Be creative!

How do you win?
The FAQs for the contest suggest that getting the support of an insurance broker in your community (by getting them to vote for your project) increases your chances of winning.
However, this is  primarily a voting-based contest, so rallying friends and family, as well as members of your community to vote for your idea is definitely the way to go! The same goes for sharing your project on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Youtube and other online communities in fun and creative ways!
