Day 25: Photograph your favorite feature.

DSCF3072

Here's my favourite feature--my eyes! Aren't you glad for this extreme close up? Better not look too close or the laser beams might getcha.

When I was in highschool or university (the first time around) I used to eye makeup the heck out of these babies, but now, I really can't be bothered most of the time. However, I'm thinking I should really have fancy eyes once in awhile, so found a few different looks that I enjoy, including some tested and true ones.

This one is fun and sparkly! However, liquid liner is a giant pain and I usually just end up looking like I was trying to put a winsome spot over one eye for a dog costume or something.

I really enjoy the many colours look, but not sure if I could pull this one off.

I had some blue sparkly eyeliner like this when I was first in university and thought I was so awesome:

I used to do a look like this once I started working--people would always ask me if I got new glasses whenever I put makeup on which I always found sort of a weird reaction to it. Similar to how my hair apparently always looks great when I remember to brush it. (You can tell how I'm a high maintenance person, right?)

I have also done the Amy Winehouse eyes, but only to dress up as a last minute Amy Winehouse for Halloween one year. I met another Amy Winehouse while out on Church Street in Toronto who "loved my hair." It was a fun year, wandering around with my friends Britney Spears and Borat on the beach (complete with homemade man-kini)

Hope you enjoyed my trip down eye makeup memory lane:)

My First Day of School (Sort of)

Today is my first day at school--sort of. I'm off to school for my orientation day for my program, and fingers crossed that I don't get ridiculously lost, as I've somehow not actually made it out to the U of Waterloo campus before. Somewhat luckily, the only bus I can take to get to school on time gets me there an hour and a half early, so I guess I'll probably have time to find my way around a few times over as well as hopefully finding about 10 gallons of coffee, since my usual day doesn't begin at 6am and I'll probably need at least that much coffee to stay awake. I'll keep reminding myself how this is one of the few times this will happen this term, and how I probably won't die. Probably.

Also, I thought I'd share a picture of my sister and I from a first day of school! I'm guessing I'm in grade 2 or 4 by my haircut, which makes my sister in senior kindergarten or Grade 1. Aren't we adorable?

Gaze upon my lovely outfit of stretch pants paired with a windbreaker with the socks pulled up! I am the early 90's personified in this picture, and don't you forget it:) Hopefully my outfit today is just as awesome as on this first day of school!

Day 18: Does the way you dress show your creativity? How? If not, why not?

I sort of covered my thoughts on colours and what I wear in my post for Day 2.
I think my problem with dressing how I'd like to amounts to a few things.

1) Time to poke around in thrift stores --I don't have a lot of it, and clothes that fit me properly and don't need a lot of altering are not readily available
2) Money --I'm trying to be a frugal Craftzilla of late and get some debts and things paid off and this does not leave a lot of monies for new things
3) Poor time management --let's face it, I'm not great at going to bed on time or getting up when I should, and my apartment is chaotic and either I can't find things or everything is in the laundry, all at once
4) Outfit planning --I am bad at this. I'm constantly asking boy whether things match or if this shirt looks good with this pants or something. He's taken over this role that my sister used to fill when I lived at home and roommates when I had them.

So, since these appear to be a lot of reasons why it's hard for me to get dressed in anything other than yoga pants and a t-shirt, or whatever else readily comes to hand, I thought I'd practice a bit of my outfit putting together skills --including accessories, which I love but can never figure out what to wear with which outfits.

Any thoughts on my outfit planning? Do I match?

Vintage Apron Love--What I'd Make -Part 1

I was poking around in a bin of half finished crafts last night, and look at the lovely-ness that I found! My mom gave me these aprons last year--they had been make-shift curtains in the basement of their new house. I find them much more beatuiful and functional as fancy aprons. The desire to cook some tasty things (and pose for 50's style apron pictures) is high! So taking the aprons into account, here's what I'd cook while wearing each of them!

I love the stipes and the flowers/hearts on this one! It's super bright and sunny and is cheering me up just looking at it. For some reason, this one makes me think of the tasty goodness of coconut cookies. I know, I know --coconut cookies seems like a super weird thing, but they are seriously amazing and fabulous!

This is very similar to the recipe I usually use --it's not a strong taste of coconut, but a light tasting, coconut-esque kind of cookie that's fairly light and flavourful. Check out the recipe here.

I love paisley generally, and this one is reminiscent of winters and warmth and cuddling up with your mom when you're sick for some reason, and thus makes me want to drink a lot of hot chocolate :

The recipe sounds great--I think there needs to be a few cold evenings again so I can whip myself up a batch!
Recipe from the Joy of Baking is available here --Hot Chocolate Recipe

Stay Tuned for Part two! I have two more fabulous aprons and recipes to go with them to share next week!

Giveaway love ---It's nice being a winner sometimes :)

Clearly publicizing giveaways by other crafters in a previous post paid off, as I won the giveaway from Punk Rawk Purl and Restless Hearts Crafts-here's the lovely brooch I won:

Golden Brooch w/ Perfectly Peach Pearl Center-  2.5" diameter (source:
I 'm currently brainstorming a few ways to show off this beauty when it arrives on Pinterest and thought I'd share.

Brooches always look nice on scarves!

Pinned onto a coat is pretty classic

Pinned onto a hat like this perhaps

On a fancy shrug ?

I do really like this hat, should I ever have to attend any Royal weddings/functions (hey, it could happen...)

Pinned onto a headband also looks divine

However, since most of my thoughts involve winter clothes and is is super hot out, likely I will settle for something like this for now-pinned onto a sweet cardigan, and paired with a pretty dress!
