Forgetting Self Care : The Worst Way to Treat Yourself

Source
Lately I've been neglecting to take care of myself, and it's starting to catch up to me. This week walking to work, my feet have definitely felt heavier than usual and I keep feeling feverish and dizzy. I feel a bit better now that I've eaten more actual food and have been trying to drink more water, but I'm starting to realize that I need to be more mindful of taking care of myself than I have been. I may not have a lot of time, but taking care of myself will end up saving me time in the long run if I feel better and can get more done. The schedule being as it is lately, I'm lucky some nights to be able to relax enough to be able to get to bed and have 5 or 6 hours of sleep. Maybe I could get by on this kind of sleep the first time I went to university, but this time it really isn't working well for me.  So I started thinking about my absolute necessitiies for survival in terms of self care, and here's what I came up with.

Eat Better and Cook More

In order to do this, we really need to do a big grocery shop, plan meals out better and shop on a set day, as I can personally put off going to the grocery store forever (walking of bus-ing to groceries is always a drag) but seriously, if I eat pizza one more day because it's easy, I might explode. Last night I took a few minutes, and made a big pot of tasty bean soup, which has gone a long way to improve my energy and mood.

Sleep

I don't know about you, but it takes me awhile to relax enough so that I can sleep, and if I don't watch a show to relax after I get home or I don't read for a few minutes before bed, I'm going to have a poor sleep. Rituals are important, and I definitely have to make sure that I have some time to do them.

Walks

The dog has been getting woefully short walks lately, and we haven't had a lot of park time which makes both of us sad (and lacking exercise!) I need to find some way to be able to get some energy to get out to the park, a decent walk or at least play in the yard for a bit.

Rest and Relaxation

I took 20 minutes the other day  to take a bubble bath the other day and I'd forgotten how recharging a quick soak can be! Also, it's impossible to do any work in the bath (don't challenge this belief!) and it was nice to disconnect for a little bit and just think some thoughts.

Friends

I have literally been hiding in my house for the most part lately, trying to get things done or just being too tired to go out. I need to find at least a tiny bit of time to see a friend or two (or even that boy of mine)  and spend a bit of time outside of my apartment. A change of scenery and  a bit of a chat with a friend always does wonders for me.

What do you do on a daily or weekly basis to take care of yourself?
